Community right to know
To provide effective communication with the community about the risks of operations and products. APS participates in the PACIA, "Open Door" days when the public are invited to inspect APS' operations. It also has established procedures to respond to issues raised by local residents of each site. During the planning process for the investment in the new facilities at the Seven Hills iste an Information Package on the site operations was provided to all of the councillors at the Blacktown Council and was available to local residents on request.
Research and Development
Ensure the protection of human health and environment during research and development. APS has upgraded it's research and development facilities with the recent completion of a new laboratory complex at Seven Hills, NSW and a new laboratory at Cheltenham, Victoria. Both laboratories have been constructed to meet all the current standards and include fume extraction, with the relevant filtration and scrubbing systems and purpose designed liquid effluent systems.:
Emergency Response & Community Awareness
Ensure protection of people, property and the environment by the provision of effective emergency response plans developed in consultation with the community and emergency services. APS maintains an emergency response system via a 1800 telephone number which enables the emergency authorities and other parties to seek advice 24 hours a day in the case of an emergency. Transfer of Material Safety Data Sheets onto an electronic data base was commenced in 1998 and once complete this will further enhance the current Emergency Response System.
